Noah made Mother’s Day 2025 special by flying into Charlotte early for a business trip. We had a wonderful weekend visit. The only thing we missed was having Siouxxanne there too.
We road Amtrak’s Piedmont from Durham to Charlotte and avoided traffic, parking, and driving I-85 on a stormy weekend.

The Durham station is in an old tobacco warehouse.
The Piedmont arrived and departed on time. Durham is the third stop on the westbound route from Raleigh to Charlotte.

All kinds of folks and animals rode along on the train with us.

Happy Riders

Noah flew in from Wisconsin and found us at the hotel.

Sunday had us out exploring the city.

Light Rail was an excellent way to get around without getting wet.

Much nicer than the buses.

It might have been mother’s day, but dad was happy to see all the rail options.

Skies cleared up and Noah drove us to the Raptor Center where we met this Great Horned Owl.

Noah made reservations on Mother’s Day at a 300 East, a fun restaurant with good food in an historic home.

We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood of large old houses converted to shops and restaurants.
Light Rail arriving at the station next to our hotel
And there were trolley’s too!
A few views from our window. The AC Hotel couldn’t be more convenient for attending a basketball game.

The trip home was on-time and uneventful.

The Piedmont trains are old, but offer big, comfortable, seats. NC is planning to buy new train sets from Siemens, after they finish building a railcar factory in our state. We definitely recommend taking the train if you have a choice. It’s a low stress way to travel.
Thanks to Noah for a special weekend!
