Heading to Florida

Going south for a Pleasure-Way owners rally and Thanksgiving with family has become a welcome November routine. This will be year four for a month-long Florida sojourn.

Hay, that’s a nice trailer at the entrance to Cartersville Country Winery.

We ended up here after an easy 181 mile secondary road route from Durham, NC to Timmonsville, SC.

Seven rigs parked around a communal fire pit for the night. That’s the most we’ve seen boondocking at a business, probably because this winery participates in both the Harvest Hosts* and Boondockers Welcome programs.

Halloween wasn’t long ago, so fun decorations were still creatively placed around the winery. Unfortunately, a private event was going on, so we didn’t get a chance to visit inside or sample any of their wines.

After sunset, temperatures quickly dropped from the 60’s into the 40’s. One of the owners was worried about all of us gathered around a small campfire, saying “I’ll be right back.” Shortly thereafter a rumbling forklift came around the corner bearing a homemade wood fired oven which radiated considerably more heat.

We appreciate the winery accommodating us during a large event and look forward to returning sometime when it isn’t as busy.

A relaxing alternative to Interstates 40 and 95.
