Staniel Cay Yacht Club

Big Majors Spot – Winds E 9-14
A good day of school. Even composition went well!
Today is internet day. Packed up the computer in the
dry bag and zoomed the 1.5 miles over to Staniel Cay Yacht Club to eat lunch
and use their wi-fi connection. Enjoyed a conch burger while Beth and Noah
chose hamburgers. This was our first meal out in the Bahamas and it was fun.
While waiting for lunch, Noah and I filled water jugs and the jerry can of
gasoline. A new Island Packet came into the dock with four kids aboard.
“Iggy Biggy” is from Virginia Beach, so Noah had a good time chatting
with the kids. The crews from “See U Manana” and “Child’s Play
II” also came in for lunch so the club looked a lot like an elementary
school cafeteria. The wi-fi signal was good enough to make some Skype calls, so
Beth was able to talk with her family. We tried to update the web site, but it
didn’t do a complete refresh, so some links may be broken or lead to dead ends.
We were able to download mail, so have added several names to the email log.
After lunch we took the dinghy up the creek to Island
General Store, but it wasn’t open on Sunday.
Didn’t see any nurse sharks at the yacht club, but
Jesse and I both looked in the Reef Fish book and decided that the one that
scared us into the dinghy yesterday was a Bull Shark.

David, from Contented Turtle, led an afternoon kids
outing to build a fort on the North beach at Big Major Spot. Kids from four
boats worked together and built a good sized structure out of limbs and palm
fronds. There were a few disagreements between the young structural engineers,
but the fort looked good when finished. The fort even had a few pets as they
caught some lizards. We’ll see if it is still there when we stop again on our
way north.
