Emerald Rock

Noah Diving
Hi again from Warderick Wells. We obviously like this
spot. After school yesterday, Noah and I tried the floating tricycle at
Powerful Beach. It was a real workout to keep even with the current. Building a
big sandcastle was more our speed. In the afternoon we spent more time
snorkeling around Emerald Rock, this time with friends from See U Manana and
Contented Turtle. That is Noah snorkeling in today’s photo. While Noah was in
school, I went up to park HQ and tried to update the Blog using the internet
connection. $10/day buys a flaky signal that wasn’t good enough to complete the
update. If there are problems with the site, it is due to my experiments from
here. Anyway, it still wasn’t bad as I sat with a Bananaquit perched on the
monitor criticizing my lack of foresight to bring some sugar along. After dinner
we threw the few table scraps into the water behind the boat and they were
immediately consumed by some two foot long silver fish with yellow tails. Fun
to watch. Good thing for them that the park is a “no take” zone or
Noah would have had a line in the water. The two other crews joined us for a
dessert of Beth’s fresh baked brownies, and then we all went ashore to crash a
beach party sponsored by the dive boat AquaCat. They didn’t mind a few cruisers
joining in the bonfire. Spoke with a couple of the divers from New Hampshire
and they were thoroughly enjoying their week-long concierge dive. They couldn’t
quite understand how we had only used 50 gallons of water in two weeks.
As I’m typing this a Bananaquit just flew into the
cabin to check us out. Bang — the mooring ball hit the boat as the wind and
current are opposing one another. Disconcerting, but not a real problem. Going
out to investigate we spot a ray beside the boat. Jumping down into the dinghy,
I lifted the look down hatch to get a better view. He (or she) is a beautiful
Spotted Eagle Ray with probably a 3-4 ft wingspan, the first we’ve ever seen.
P57 of the Royal Bahamian Defence Force came in last
night and headed out this morning to investigate a report of a boat of Hatian
Refugees spotted south of here.
Back when we were in Titusville, we were interviewed
for an internet webcast. We received an email that it is now available for
listening at
www.furledsails.com
Our current plan is to stay here again tonight and
then head down to Sampson Cay to fill up on gasoline for the dinghy, fill our
water tanks, and reprovision the fresh food locker.

We understand that the northern US has been getting
hit with ice storms. Hope that power is restored quickly and there isn’t too
much tree damage.

Fun with a Tricycle
