Normans Cay

We’re still in Normans Cay while the wind blows from
the North. Yesterday started with a Lobster hunt at 0645 with Jesse from
Contented Turtle and Jerry from Ministry. It was my first time trying the
spear. We snorkeled for 2 hours and I never found a lobster in a hole, but the
other two guys got three. Jesse set a pair of antennae so they just stuck out
of a hole and pointed me towards them. I speared the hole perfectly, and if
there had been a lobster attached might have got him. Good fun! Water temp is
79 and with a wet suit it is very comfortable.  The look down window in
the dinghy made it easier to find a good reef. Still getting used to reading
the water. What looks like a foot through the window is really about three feet
deep.
Noah had a good day of school and was done by the time
I got back. Messed with the cockpit light that had rusted out. Changed out the
plug type for a waterproof one and we’re back in business. David came over here
to play for a while and then he and Noah went to the beach with Jesse to take
their beagle for a run and play in the water.
Ministry invited both crews over for a pot luck dinner
last night. They have a big catamaran so we could all fit comfortably on the
“veranda.” Beth made her (now famous) apple pancake for dessert.
Dinner was lobster salad, chicken soup, and lobster tails. The boys watched
three stooges while the adults visited. We were stuffed by the time we loaded
into the dinghy and headed into the night to try and find our boat. Winds had
picked up to 17 out of the north and it was a short, but wet and windy, ride
home. The three crews checked in after getting back to our boats to be sure
everyone was safe. Then someone else came on the radio and said “Good
night John boy.” There are 18 boats anchored here using the protection
from the north wind as the cold front moves through. Can’t complain about a
front that only drops the temperature from 85 to 74. The winds are helping to
fill up our battery banks.  Checked out the anchor and chain yesterday
after we had been through a few current cycles.!

The anchor was well set and the chain was
in a large loop that followed our drift. The current is going E – W at up to 2
kts and the wind was blowing the boat towards the south. A little different
from anchoring at home. We will stay here for a couple of days until the wind
stops coming from the north.
