Old Friends at New Smyrna Beach

Art & Joyce Duser, formerly from Durham, met us in
New Smyrna Beach for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed catching up with them. It is always
fun to meet old friends along the way.  Blackbeard’s was a good choice for
dinner. Dusers even took us to get some milk, which has proven to be a
difficult thing to find along the waterway. Beer and bait are what is stocked
in most convenience stores.
Last night we stayed a Palm Shores where the resort
has been torn down and is being replaced with condominiums. They had reduced
rates during the construction, but the two swimming pools and kids activities
are no longer an option.  I walked to a deli at a nearby “European
Village” twice since they had a “run” on milk, selling both their gallons in
one day and would have more after 5.  My advice is to call before making
the hike, since they didn’t get a milk delivery at all.
In New Smyrna Beach, we took a slip at the newly
reopened City Marina. Inexpensive and very nice. Walked the main street in town
where Beth found both a Bead shop and a Rubber Stamp store, though they were
about the only shops open. Monday is the day that shop keepers rest here. There
was a nice playground near the marina, so Noah had a chance to run around and
meet some people under the age of 40.
