Cape Ann up to Maine

03 August 2025

Welcomed the day with a walk to the beach where we shared the view with a friendly local husky.

We decided to follow local roads and explore towns on the Cape Ann Peninsula.

Pulled into the nearly empty Visitor Center parking lot. They were very helpful and Beth came out with lots of brochures and maps.

1050 72,093 74°F Downtown Gloucester

City Hall – 1871

Joseph Foster Home – 1760

The bronze Fitz Henry Lane Sculpture by Alfred Duca pays tribute to the artists of the region.

The contrast between this historic bank plaque and a current business led me to capture both.

Gloucester is full of history with connections to TS Elliot, Rudyard Kipling, and was the setting for the classic film Captain’s Courageous. If you find yourself in the area, check out the Gloucester HarborWalk website for a suggested walking itinerary.

Left Gloucester at 1134 heading toward Rockport on 127A

1223 72107 73°F No parking was available in Rockport, so we returned to Gloucester and made lunch in the van.

Found level, on-street parking across from the Gloucester Civil War Memorial. Headed north again at 1255.

Traffic was backed up around the little town of Newburyport. We caught the very end of a local parade. Shortly thereafter we left the coastal route and joined northbound traffic on I-95. New Hampshire only has 16 miles on this interstate, but those miles extract a toll from every vehicle passing between Massachusetts to Maine.

Driveway Camping with relatives.

Went to dinner with cousin Sue and her family at Capt. Jack’s restaurant at Naples Marina. Saw an Amphicar! It fascinated me enough to write a separate post: https://rvintuition.com/amphicar/

Thanks to Sue, Dave, Mason, Daphne, and Disco for a fun visit.
