Farewell Chesapeake

From Solomons we cruised 64 miles to Fishing Bay near
Deltaville, Virginia where we anchored for the night. This is one of the deeper
anchorages we’ve visited with twenty feet of water. It took us a couple of
tries to get 150 feet of chain and our 45 pound CQR anchor to set, but it held
securely through twenty knots of wind and some rain showers.  Pulling it
back up in the morning gave us a little excitement as the chain “castled”
jamming the windlass and blowing the house battery bank fuse. After tearing
apart Noah’s bed to get to and replace the fuse we were underway with only a
small delay. The day started out rainy with the wind on the nose, but gave way
to sunbeams warm enough for Noah to “feet dunk” and a wind
shift
that allowed us to hit 8.2 knots under sail and a favorable current.
Passing Old Point Comfort ended our exploration of the Chesapeake and
should bring us back to North Carolina this week. We’re docked at the Downtown
Hampton City Piers, one of our favorite stops. Upon arrival, we were greeted by
Mark & Teri from “Fancy Free” who we had last seen here in July. Looking
forward to catching up with their summer adventures.
