Lots of Help

We’ve had lots of help here in Charleston. The local
USPS port captain of m/v Victory agreed to receive our replacement radio and
even delivered it to the boat. Turns out he and his wife owned an Island Packet
40 prior to their current vessel. The crew of Charbonneau offered local advice
and a chance for Noah to walk with Max and Bailey, the famous traveling golden
retrievers. The crew of Wandering Dolphin were especially gracious, getting us
to stores to buy parts for the wi-fi adapter and letting Noah join in all their
halloween activities. Many thanks to all the good folks at Charleston City
Marina.
Casting off wasn’t easy on Wednesday, but we knew it
was time to move on. We waited for slack tide and then fueled up, so didn’t get
away from the marina until almost 1130. We passed Grateful Attitudes from NW
Creek in New Bern and passed greeting over the radio. Speaking of radios, the
new ICOM SSB doesn’t use the same connectors as the old one, so we spent some
quality time soldering new connectors. Some were TINY and only Beth could see
well enough to crimp them together for soldering.

Anchored out in the North Edisto River which was quite
a change from Charleston. There were two other sailboats within a half-mile and
nothing else showing the presence of mankind. As evening fell, what seemed like
thousands of starlings flew by and then roosted along the shore. A two knot
current and seven foot tide were very interesting. We left near low tide and
spotted the first alligator of the trip. Noah isn’t so sure he wants to go feet
dunking anymore!
