Just around the corner we found a(free) State Park offering beautiful views from Owls Head Light and a rocky beach.

Be prepared to climb a few outdoor stairs to reach the base of Owls Head light.

The 1852 lighthouse is only 30 feet tall, but sits on a high headland.

Children were exploring tide pools on the rocky beach. Owls Head rock can be seen towering over the sailboat on the right.

The ferry in the first photo below runs from Rockland to
Vinalhaven Island.

Just down the road, Richard Carver Harbor Park is a pretty place to watch fishing and pleasure boats. Unlike other harbors, the parking is plentiful and free.

Tied up to a floating pier in Owls Head Harbor, this wooden ketch captured my heart.

This is one of my favorite photographs of the summer.

Pepper Hill Farm – Harvest Host
$20 Donation

Pepper Hill is a beautiful horse farm with four sites set aside for Harvest Host members. It was near a small airport, but there weren’t many flights. Hosts had an info kiosk with lots of information about things to do in the area. Even picnic tables were provided. The only drawback was an abundance of mosquitos, but even with those, the farm is much nicer than many campgrounds! Our hosts were friendly and we highly recommend this stop for anyone visiting the area.
