September 2021

While on a grocery and harwware run, we took in some of the local sights, like this view of Whiteface Mountain’s ski slopes.

Waterfalls in the Wilmington area can be accessed from pull-outs on the highway. One of our favorites is near “The Hungry Trout” restaurant.

Lake Placid is the home to many beautiful Adirondack Camps. Part of the beauty is the lack of road access. There is something special about the wooden runabouts docked at the marina.

Boathouses line the shores of Lake Placid.

The Olympic Stadiums and shops are overseen by a wood and stone church on the hill.

Work was underway upgrading the ski jumps.

Not very busy in September, it won’t be long before this sign will be surrounded by snow.

Returning to camp, Whiteface Mountain can be seen across Fern Lake.

Each evening, just before sunset, we noticed a beaver passing by the shoreline. It was a week before I actually captured a photo of the swimmer.

I learned so sail on this lake. Looking out from the inlet brought back fond memories.

The “thinking rock” was a place one could sit and contemplate.

Before buying their camp, my parents rented this one from friends. The small “bunkhouse” to the right of the boat house was where we kids slept.

A clear day revealed a view of the Adirondack high peaks with Whiteface Mountain and the Wilmington range in the foreground.

Going through boxes of old photographs turned up a winter view of the same scene from the 1970’s. Winters were cold enough that people didn’t hesitate to drive on the ice.
