Salem, Massachusetts

Beth’s cousin Jodi picked us up at the campground and took us to their home in nearby Lowell. She & Dorian have two kids, one of which is a year older than Noah. They both enjoy comics, computers and games so get along well. They took us to Salem where we walked around the old town enjoying the museums and shops. I didn’t see any sign of our ancestors; Roger, William or Joan Haskell, who sailed here from England in 1635.

Beth and Jodi found some LARGE stick art outside the Peabody-Essex museum. We toured the House of Seven Gables which was a basis for Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book of the same name. My favorite building was the Custom House across the street from the waterfront. Salem was a much bigger town than I imagined with historic sights sandwiched between kitschy gift shops and witch “museums.” It must be quite an interesting place around halloween.

Jodi & Dorian took us back to their home for a lovely dinner and a relaxing conversation before dropping us back at the campsite. I appreciated a day where I didn’t do any driving!
