Rosie the Riveter Park

Not Vermont, but West Virginia. Sandwiched between a highway and the Ohio River lies Rosie the Riveter Park with three “donations requested” RV sites for visitors.

We are the third RV here, so we’re going to make dinner, watch the barges go by, and spend the night.

Fast food restaurants are right across the street and there is a walking path along the river. The restrooms in the park have been abused and are in sad shape, but we’re lucky to have brought our own.

We could hear trains from the very active railroad line, but only see the top of the double stack container cars passing by behind the shopping center across the street.

Noise from the busy road made it a little difficult to sleep, but it was fun to be right on the river with views of the passing barge traffic.

Thank you St Albans for providing a safe, low cost, place to stop in your city.

On the way here, we stopped at Hopewell Cultural National Historic Park where 2,000 year old earthworks in geometric patterns still aren’t fully understood.

We’ve visited other ancient mound sites, but this one had the best display of artifacts. A couple of the carvings were original. Most of them are now on display in London with replicas here. Mica, copper, and soft stone were the materials used in the items found here.
