0600  56,981  55°F  Garden Golf in Garden, MI

Shooting stars over Garden using an iPhone 13 on a tripod, triggered remotely by an apple watch.

Beth slept in because she stayed up late taking star photos.

0925  56,981  62°F  Leave Garden Golf

We saw our shadow under blue skies before heading east.

1000  57,003  61°F  Indian Lake State Park

Dumped  our waste tanks and checked out the beach. Looks like a nice lake for kayaking. We put it on our future campsites list. Left at 1028

1035  57,009  64°F   Manistique, MI

This interesting Water Tower welcomed us to Manistique.

Next up was this Siphon Bridge. It didn’t look like much, but is quite unique.

The local Lion’s Club provided the details of the bridge.

1057  57,010  Downtown Manistique, MI

Colorful murals adorned shops in town.

We walked around on a quiet Sunday morning, enjoying the well preserved architecture in Manistique.

This pretty Upper Peninsula map is made up of different stones for each county.

1115  57,010  Manistique Harbor

Constructed in 1916, the East Breakwater Lighthouse is a 36 foot high steel pyramid. The light has been privately owned since 2013.
Timber and pig iron were shipped from here starting in the 1870’s. Today the harbor is primarily used by pleasure craft.

Fishing boats here are fully enclosed to handle the northern Great Lakes weather.

We enjoyed checking out the harbor, then continued eastward.

1230  57,067  65°F  Naubinway, MI

Just east of town we pulled into a MDOT Rest Stop to eat lunch.

We learned that this wasn’t just a scenic view, but is close to the northernmost point of Lake Michigan.

Looking south, you can’t tell if this is a lake or an ocean. Google tells us that the southwestern shore is 307 miles away.

1330  57,106  67°F  St. Ignace MI

Stopped at BP for fuel before crossing the five mile long Mackinaw Bridge into the lower peninsula
We always stop at the park at the foot of the big bridge for lake and flower views. This monarch butterfly also stopped here to enjoy milkweed.
The northern shoreline drive ending at the bridge meant we had now driven the circumference of Lake Michigan.  That only leaves a few bits of the Lake Erie shore before we have traveled around the shores of all five Great Lakes. We may have stopped sailing, but we can’t seem to break free of the water.
1440  57,171  74°F  Gaylord, MI
Exited I-75 to fuel-up the van and stock-up on groceries at Meijer.

1534  57,180  74°F  Lake Manuka, MI

We’re here to visit with Beth’s sister and brother-in-law for a few days at their lovely cottage.
