We saw our shadow under blue skies before heading east.
Dumped our waste tanks and checked out the beach. Looks like a nice lake for kayaking. We put it on our future campsites list. Left at 1028
This interesting Water Tower welcomed us to Manistique.
Colorful murals adorned shops in town.
Constructed in 1916, the East Breakwater Lighthouse is a 36 foot high steel pyramid. The light has been privately owned since 2013.
Timber and pig iron were shipped from here starting in the 1870’s. Today the harbor is primarily used by pleasure craft.
We enjoyed checking out the harbor, then continued eastward.
Just east of town we pulled into a MDOT Rest Stop to eat lunch.
We learned that this wasn’t just a scenic view, but is close to the northernmost point of Lake Michigan.
Looking south, you can’t tell if this is a lake or an ocean. Google tells us that the southwestern shore is 307 miles away.
Stopped at BP for fuel before crossing the five mile long Mackinaw Bridge into the lower peninsula
We always stop at the park at the foot of the big bridge for lake and flower views. This monarch butterfly also stopped here to enjoy milkweed.
The northern shoreline drive ending at the bridge meant we had now driven the circumference of Lake Michigan. That only leaves a few bits of the Lake Erie shore before we have traveled around the shores of all five Great Lakes. We may have stopped sailing, but we can’t seem to break free of the water.

Exited I-75 to fuel-up the van and stock-up on groceries at Meijer.
We’re here to visit with Beth’s sister and brother-in-law for a few days at their lovely cottage.
