Turnaround Day

Well, we spent the morning walking to West Marine, the
Bank and the Post Office. They are all very convenient to our anchorage, but we
were still hot and thirsty when we got back to the boat. Still need to get into
the habit of carrying water and snacks. We don’t think about that at home when
we run errands in a car. Noah was complaining about missing his friends and
wishing that we would cancel the trip. We’ve met a couple of other cruising
couples and Beth ran into a dentist in the bank that says lots of cruising
“snowbirds” stop here to have their teeth cleaned. Haven’t run into any other
boats with kids since late July. School went a little better today with fewer
tears at writing time. Something might be working, because Noah wrote a four
page letter to his friend Charley after lunch.
Today’s excitement was a crab sitting on our rudder.
Noah went to shoo him away and he jumped onto the stern ladder — which was out
of the water!  This afternoon was punctuated by canon fire as the USS
Constellation was pushed past us in the river as it went down to Fort McHenry
for a turnaround and then went back to the inner harbor in Baltimore. The boat
next to us greeted the Constellation by blowing their conch shell horn. There
are supposed to be fireworks tomorrow night, so we’re all looking forward to
that.
