The Androscoggin River drops 176 feet over several sets of waterfalls as it passes through town.
Power is harnessed by dams for the town and a large paper mill.

Rumford can claim former Secretary of State Edmund Muskie as a Native Son.

We visited with Paul Bunyan and his blue ox at the Rumford Visitor Center.
1229 72,685 91°F Sunday River, ME
Made our lunch in the parking lot of the Matterhorn Ski Bar. Had tried to stop at the nearby covered bridge, but there wasn’t room to park. No competition for space from skiers in August.

1337 72,701 93°F Gilead, ME

Gilead has a restored train station and school.
1429 72,738 91°F Lancaster, NH
Stopped at Scoops Ice Cream

1450 72,739 96°F Checked in at Riverside Camping & RV Resort

We had site #2. All sites have full hook-ups. There is a service station behind that wall, but we weren’t bothered by noise overnight. We had a view of the river and the sunset from inside the van.
We caught up on laundry ($2/load) and enjoyed the clean shower building.

New Hampshire and Vermont are divided here by the Connecticut river. Canoes and kayaks have a good place to tie up here at the campground.
