24 August 2025 – Sunday

0930 73,078 71°F 445′ Leave Copper City Brewing where we enjoyed our night at as Harvest Host Guest. Read yesterday’s post for more about Copper City and the Erie Canal.

A mile down the road we pulled into Fort Stanwix National Monument.

Fort Stanwix is in downtown Rome, so after exploring the museum and fort, we checked out the surrounding historic area.

Being a Sunday, we were able to hear the bells call the congregation to worship at the 1897 Saint Peter’s Catholic Church.

The old city hall was surrounded by sculpture gardens. Other interesting buildings were the victorian styled VFW post and a restored 1929 Sears Oil service station.

Copper Flashing on the 1850 Zion Episcopal Church reminded us that Rome is known as “Copper Town.”

Goodbye romans, thanks for your hospitality!
1100 72,084 Free Dump Station on Canal Trail Path

The Erie Canal Village Museum is near the dump station, but it wasn’t open on Sunday morning.

I was disappointed because cars from an interesting train were calling to me from across the canal.

Pulled in here because there was a thunderstorm coming. It was a good choice because we experienced strong wind, rain, and hail.

The site has a history of disasters commemorated by this highway sign.
Pulled out at 1440 after the storm moved on.

We boondocked in the yard of fellow Pleasure-Way owners Judy and Sterling. They are a delightful couple and we thank them for sharing their driveway with us. The property and home are beautiful, but I don’t think it is a good idea to share a photo.
My waistline would expand if we spent too much time here. A cute ice cream shop and several interesting looking restaurants are only a short walk away. There are lions and other animals you might not expect to find in Ontario at Safari Niagara. If you sleep with your windows open, there are interesting sounds to be heard at dawn.
Good night from Ontario
